Five alumni of the ���ߺ��� ���ߺ��� were honored among the state's most effective educational leaders during the summer conference of the Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA) and Association of Washington School Principals (AWSP).

State-level awards were presented to:

• Dr. James Everett ( Cohort 4), principal of Meridian School District, Robert J. Handy Most Effective Administrator Award: Medium District.
• Dr. Carl Bruner (Leadership for Learning Cohort 2), superintendent of Mount Vernon School District, Robert J. Handy Most Effective Administrator Award: Large District.
• Dr. Chrys Sweeting (Leadership for Learning Cohort 4 and Cohort 11), assistant superintendent of Puyallup School District, WASA Leadership Award.
• Brian Hart (Leadership for Learning Cohort 6), executive director of curriculum, instruction and assessment at Sunnyside School District, Doyle Winter Scholarship Award for Administrative Leadership in Education.
• Dr. Bette Hyde (post-doctorate administrative certification), director of the Washington Department of Early Learning, Barbara Mertens Legacy Award.

The Robert J. Handy Most Effective Administrator Awards recognize outstanding public school administrators in Washington state. One highly effective superintendent, central office administrator or building administrator is selected from a small school district (up to 500 students), medium-sized school district (501 to 2,000 students) and large school district (over 2,000 students). Winners are selected based on their success in realizing the nine characteristics of high performing schools/districts as defined by research from the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.

The Dr. Doyle E. Winter Scholarship for Administrative Leadership in Education assists talented and committed educational administrators as they enhance skills needed to serve as educational leaders in the field of public education. Hart was selected for his work to “develop a first-class professional development model that supports every teacher in helping each student make standard and graduate with career and college readiness skills.”

The WASA Leadership Award is presented to a WASA member who demonstrates and exemplifies outstanding leadership abilities and has made significant contributions to the field of education on a statewide level.

UW's doctorate in education program (Ed.D.) is dedicated to producing innovative, equity-focused leaders who have the ability to transform educational systems to help realize ambitious learning goals for all students.

The Danforth Educational Leadership Program prepares experienced educators to take on prominent leadership roles in K-12 school systems, combining proven classroom instruction and cutting-edge research with intensive field-based learning experiences.
