New course applications are found at HYPERLINK "http://depts.washington.edu/uwcr/instructions.html" http://depts.washington.edu/uwcr/instructions.html Basic instructions for completion of the form are found at the same web site. Additional ߺ instructions: 1. New course applications must be submitted by the area chair or program director to the Faculty Council at least 4 weeks prior to UW Curriculum Committee review date. 2. The Faculty Councils committee will review the course application within 2 weeks of submission. The committee may request additional information or clarification before approving and sending to the UW Curriculum Committee. 3. Provide a cover letter to the Faculty Council providing a justification for the new course. This justification should respond to the following questions: Why is this course needed? How does this course fit into current offerings, programs of study, or professional program requirements? Does the COE offer other courses with similar content? If so, why is this course needed? Who is the intended audience for the course? Will any existing courses be dropped? If so, what courses and when will they be dropped? If not, why not? Note: The new course application also requires a justification. The justification in the cover letter should be considered an expansion on the rationale provided in the application. 4. Attach a syllabus and a reading list to the application. Student assignments and activities should demonstrate an expectation of graduate level work, and should correspond with the credits and hours indicated on the application. The application and the syllabus must indicate how students will be evaluated and relative percentage for each activity or assignment. 5. The primary learning objectives must be included on the application. These objectives focus on student performance. Learning objectives must contain A description of what the student will be able to do The conditions under which the student will perform The criteria for evaluating student performance 6. As a ߺ we expect that the course syllabus that is included with the application will be an excellent example. Examples of syllabi are provided on the Graduate School CIDR website listed here: HYPERLINK "http://depts.washington.edu/cidrweb/syllabus/index.html" http://depts.washington.edu/cidrweb/syllabus/index.html 7. The Faculty Council subcommittee will review the course application, cover letter, syllabus and reading list. The primary criteria for review are: applications are complete and accurate, adequate justification is provided, and the application demonstrates the course fit with College and program goals. Course change applications are also found at HYPERLINK "http://depts.washington.edu/uwcr/instructions.html" http://depts.washington.edu/uwcr/instructions.html 1. Course change applications should be submitted by the area chair or program director to the Faculty Council at least 4 weeks before the UW Curriculum Committee due date. 2. Use this form for relatively minor changes. See the web site for descriptions of minor changes. 3. Include the course syllabus and reading list if there are changes in credit. April 2008 FP !
