Position Description

Job Title: Library Media Specialist / Technology TOSA (Grades 6–12)
 Location: South Whidbey High School & Middle School
 Reports To: Building Principals and District Technology Director
 FTE: Full-Time, Certificated
 Start Date: 25/26 School Year


Position Overview:

South Whidbey School District seeks a dynamic and innovative educator to serve as a Library Media Specialist and Technology Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) for grades 6–12. This dual-role position supports digital literacy, information literacy, and instructional technology integration while fostering a thriving library culture at both the middle and high school campuses.


Key Responsibilities:

Library Media Specialist Duties:

  • Manage and maintain the 6–12 library collections and resources.

     
  • Foster a reading culture by curating diverse, inclusive, and age-appropriate print and digital materials.

     
  • Teach research and information literacy skills, including ethical use of information.

     
  • Collaborate with teachers to integrate library/media resources into curriculum units.

     
  • Promote student use of the library for academic and independent reading purposes.

     
  • Supervise students in the library space and ensure a welcoming and productive environment.
  • Supervise and oversee independent online study courses 

     

Technology TOSA Duties:

  • Provide instructional coaching and support for teachers integrating technology into classroom instruction.

     
  • Lead professional development in digital tools, learning management systems, and educational apps.

     
  • Partner with IT staff to support device management (1:1 programs, Chromebooks, troubleshooting).

     
  • Support students and staff in digital citizenship, media creation, and online safety.

     
  • Pilot and evaluate new technology tools and platforms to improve teaching and learning.

     
  • Assist with standardized testing logistics related to digital platforms.

     

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Current Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate- Library Media.

     
  • Proven experience using and supporting educational technology in secondary settings.

     
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.

     

Preferred:

  • Previous experience as a librarian, tech coach, or instructional leader.

     
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace for Education, Destiny Library Manager, and digital learning platforms (e.g., Canvas, Clever, etc.).

     
  • Knowledge of Washington State Learning Standards, ISTE Standards, and AASL frameworks.

  • Serve as a bridge between instructional staff and IT.

     
  • Actively participate in building and district-level tech and literacy initiatives.

     
  • Be flexible, student-centered, and proactive in addressing both instructional and technical challenges.
