ob Summary: The Supervisor & Lead Teacher in this role is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the QA school while also leading and teaching in a mixed-age classroom. This position combines leadership, administrative tasks, and hands-on teaching responsibilities. The individual in this role ensures high-quality child care and educational services, manages staff, fosters positive relationships with parents, and ensures that the facilities are safe, clean, and organized. Additionally, this role requires strategic thinking, creative problem-solving, and consistent communication to maintain smooth daily operations and meet licensing, regulatory, and program standards. Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to,Supervision of Classroom & Facility Operations Classroom Management & Teaching: Lead and teach in the mixed-age classroom, creating a nurturing environment that promotes learning, social development, and emotional well-being. Plan, implement, and evaluate developmentally appropriate activities and lessons tailored to a mixed-age group of children. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom, ensuring that all learning materials are well-maintained and accessible. Lead Classroom Activities: Plan, organize, and implement daily educational activities that promote social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development for children in a mixed-age classroom (e.g., ages 1-5 years). Adapt Learning Plans: Tailor activities and lesson plans to accommodate a range of developmental stages and individual learning needs, ensuring all children receive personalized support. Foster Positive Behavior: Encourage positive behavior through clear expectations, consistent routines, and proactive strategies to manage classroom behavior. Promote Social & Emotional Growth: Support children in building social skills, resolving conflicts, and developing a positive self-concept. * Facility & Safety Management: Ensure that school is clean, safe, and organized, including classroom, playgrounds, front and back yards, storage rooms, break room, office, and all common areas. Oversee routine facility maintenance and manage building repairs and renovations, including soliciting bids, making proposals, and coordinating the selection of contractors. Ensure that all equipment, appliances, and toys are in good working condition and meet safety standards. Inventory Management and Purchasing Responsibilities Ensure that the weekly menu is updated efficiently following health guidelines and dietary restrictions. Ensure timely grocery purchasing to meet weekly menu requirements, avoiding shortages or excess inventory. Oversee inventory levels to prevent waste, ensure proper rotation of stock, and keep storage areas organized. Regularly analyze and compare supplier prices to ensure cost-effective purchasing without compromising quality. Negotiate with vendors to obtain best pricing and discounts for bulk purchasing or long-term contracts. Monitor and report on inventory costs to identify opportunities for cost savings or budget adjustments. Track and report any price fluctuations and adjust purchasing accordingly. Perform routine checks to confirm that storage conditions (e.g., refrigeration and dry storage) meet required standards to maintain the quality and safety of ingredients. Ensure products have proper labeling and expiration dates to maintain compliance with regulations. Events & Scheduling: Plan and oversee events, including school activities, family events, and community engagement initiatives. Manage school scheduling, ensuring adequate staff coverage and that school operations run smoothly. Develop proposals for additional income through special events or merchandising. Administrative Responsibilities Communication & Administration: Transition director emails to admin and monitor until full transition is completed. Answer phone calls and emails promptly, ensuring effective communication with parents, staff, and other stakeholders. Maintain positive relationships with regulatory and accrediting agencies, ensuring compliance with all licensing requirements and standards. Prepare, review, and send out invoices for both locations, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery. Budgeting & Financial Oversight: Update and review the monthly budget, making sure expenses are in line with financial goals. Monitor pricing for supplies and services at least quarterly, making necessary adjustments to maintain budget efficiency. Staff Scheduling & Payroll: Oversee teacher scheduling and ensure that timesheets are correct, and payroll is processed on time. Inform Stephanie when timesheets are ready, at least two days before the pay date (every 5th and 20th), preferably every 16th and 1st of the month* Ensure that staff benefits (medical, dental insurance, 401k) are properly managed and documented. *Stephanie may ask for this sooner, depending on when payroll is due. Supervision of Employees Staff Recruitment & Onboarding: Oversee the recruitment, onboarding, and HR functions for new staff. Ensure that all employee records are complete, including background checks, CPR certifications, food handler’s permits, and other required documents. Plan and conduct in-service and leadership training sessions to ensure staff are fully equipped to meet licensing standards and educational expectations. Performance Management: Conduct staff evaluations and assess teacher performance at least twice a year. Provide mentorship, resources, and training to help staff exceed expectations. Maintain open communication and a positive relationship with staff to foster a supportive work environment. Supervision of Parents/Families Enrollment & Documentation: Send out enrollment paperwork to new families and ensure it is completed and returned in a timely manner. Manage and update family-related records and ensure proper documentation for each child. Supervision of Children Child Development & Support: Support children’s emotional, social, and cognitive development through positive reinforcement and educational activities. Implement strategies to address individual needs and collaborate with families on personalized child development plans. Provide hands-on care and support, including dressing children, changing diapers, and fostering positive social interactions. Portfolios & Assessments: Develop and maintain portfolios for graduating children, documenting their growth and accomplishments. Conduct assessments of children's progress and development at least twice a year. Supervision of Curriculum & Philosophy Curriculum Oversight: Assist with curriculum planning and ensure that activities align with developmentally appropriate practices and the program’s educational philosophy. Provide support for teachers in implementing lesson plans and setting up materials for activities. Step in to teach or assist when necessary, ensuring the continuation of the curriculum in the absence of the assigned teacher. Continuous Program Development: Continuously assess and improve the program, ensuring that educational methods and classroom activities are current and in line with best practices in early childhood education. Ensure that all teaching methods are applied effectively on the floor to promote child development. Curriculum Implementation: Implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum that aligns with educational objectives and fosters creativity, curiosity, and exploration in young learners. Creative and Hands-On Activities: Set up and manage art, sensory, and educational learning materials that allow children to explore through play and structured activities. Supervise Classroom Spaces: Ensure the classroom environment is organized, safe, and conducive to learning, with materials and toys that are age-appropriate and in good condition. Supervision of Program Program Planning & Evaluation: Oversee and ensure that the program meets or exceeds licensing and accrediting requirements. Manage program implementation and evaluate its success, making necessary improvements as needed. Set up materials and resources for special events or unique programs as needed. Collaboration & Teamwork: Collaborate with Other Teachers and Staff from both locations: Work as a team with other teachers, assistants, and staff to plan and implement effective learning experiences. Mentor Teaching Assistants: Provide support, guidance, and training for teaching assistants or aides, ensuring they understand classroom routines and educational goals. Promote a Positive Team Environment: Encourage teamwork and open communication among staff members to maintain a supportive and productive atmosphere. Substitute and Assistance Duties: Serve as the point of contact and take on the responsibilities of the Director of West Seattle during their leave, vacation, or any other absence. Ensure the smooth continuation of operations, including overseeing team activities, decision-making, and maintaining communication with key stakeholders in the absence of the Director. Qualifications: Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in early childhood education, including experience in a leadership role. Strong understanding of child development, curriculum planning, and best practices in early childhood education. Skills & Abilities: Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills. Ability to multitask, think strategically, and manage both classroom and administrative duties effectively. Strong problem-solving skills and creative thinking. Knowledge of state regulations, licensing requirements, and safety standards in child care settings. Ability to foster a positive and collaborative work environment for staff. Certifications: CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). Valid background checks and required documentation for working in a child care setting. Continuing education -initial 30 hours of STARS, plus 10 hours of annual training.
