Rainier Prep is a rigorous college preparatory 5th – 8th public charter school located on the border of South Seattle and Burien, WA. POSITION SUMMARY:
Rainier Prep is seeking talented educators who love teaching and who know how to balance rigor and curiosity in a classroom setting. This role will lead an advisory, teach a reading class, co-teach academic classes, teach two afternoon enrichment classes (2 days per week), a lunch or recess duty, and be a critical member of the Rainier Prep community.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Our teachers create a classroom culture of high expectations, learning, curiosity, hard work and support for each student. Hires are expected to work from 8:00am-4:00pm daily and/or per the schedule set at time of hire.
Establish Strong School and Classroom Culture:
- Cultivate a healthy classroom and school culture, modeling an approach to learning which emphasizes risk-taking, respect, curiosity and constant commitment to quality improvement
- Establish/encourage culture of flexible and collaborative collegiality in which mission and goals of the school are the foremost focus of all decision making; lead students to handle adversity and ambiguity well
- Thrive in an innovative, reflective culture that demands flexibility and quick adjustments to meet student needs
Deliver Excellent Results:
- Teach high-quality small group lessons
- Keep detailed progress on students with IEPs or students within the MTSS process as well as coordinate services for students receiving special education services
- Co-plan units of study and daily lessons with clear outcomes that students can understand
- Plan with the end in mind using UBD (Understanding by Design) principles
- Daily use of formative assessment to guide instruction
- Seek additional knowledge about how to diagnose students’ misconceptions and correct quickly
Collaborate with Colleagues:
- Seek, provide and implement high-quality feedback from/to colleagues
- Update team members on strategies for working with particular students, academic and behavioral progress, as well as changes to IEP documents
- Collaboration with grade-level and subject colleagues on all common courses taught
- Model a growth mindset and foster continuous learning in students, families and colleagues
- Open classroom doors to colleagues, families and community members
- Observe peers teaching and provide feedback to improve teaching and learning
- Create and support common school-wide systems
- Assist in special projects as needed and other duties as assigned or assumed
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor’s Degree
- A current teaching certificate w/ Special Education endorsement (or equivalent)
- Excellent relationship building and communication skills with adults and students alike
- Growth mindset and belief that all children can learn at high levels
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
- Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills
- Experience working with diverse students/families and an advocate for all children
- Flexible and quick learner
- Strong technology skills including proficiency in Google Education Platform (gmail, slides, sheets, meets, etc
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two years or more of teaching experience
- Classroom data which demonstrates that your students are outperforming the odds
- Experience in a high-performing district or charter school that is significantly outperforming its neighboring schools
BONUS!: Fluent in Somali, Spanish, Amharic, Vietnamese, or Arabic
