Bill and Mimi Gates Advancement Internship

We have an exciting opportunity for three student interns this upcoming academic school year. This is a part-time, 9-month internship. 

 

The Bill and Mimi Gates Advancement Internship is an incredible opportunity for students who aspire to make a positive impact on their community and society at large through higher education fundraising. The Gates Advancement Internship offers hands-on experience in various advancement areas, including fundraising; alumni engagement; marketing and communications; and operations. This internship is an inspiring introduction to a career in advancement, offering students the chance to cultivate connections with their peers and make a meaningful difference in the lives of their fellow students across the university.

The Gates Internship is a paid position at $19.97 per hour for three rising seniors or graduate students (individually working up to 15 hours per week) and is designed to span the academic year from September through June. Each intern will rotate through various areas of focus, working with one team per quarter in the following areas: Marketing and Communications, Fundraising, Prospect Development, Development Services, and Alumni and Stakeholder Engagement.

 

What You Will Do: 

Marketing and Communications

  • Create, organize and execute email campaigns in Marketo.
  • Plan and coordinate an event or meeting.

Fundraising

  • Identify grant opportunities and manage the application process.
  • Research potential sponsorships, draft donation procurement letters, and follow up on donation procurement inquiries via phone and email.

Prospect Development 

  • Utilize the prospect tracking system.
  • Learn prospect and donor research ethics.
  • Identify prospective donors.
  • Explore prospect management tools and compare platforms.

Development Services

  • Utilize project management tools to streamline and centralize resources and projects.
  • Engage in learning and development initiatives, including creating onboarding training courses for incoming staff.

Alumni and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work with the Engagement team to support new and ongoing programs in alumni relations, alumni and student engagement, constituent relations and membership.
  • Support UW Impact programs and communications and legislative advocacy efforts.
  • Work with the UW Alumni Association’s marketing and communications team to support social media engagement.

Minimum Requirements: &²Ô²ú²õ±è;

  • Registered ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ senior, or a graduate student, for the upcoming academic year with a graduation date in June 2025.
  • Minimum of one year of work experience and/or internship experience.
  • Interest in fundraising, philanthropy, non-profit organizational work, marketing and communications, events and engagement.

 

What You Can Expect: 

  • Commitment to an average of 15 hours per week through the fall, winter and spring quarters (30 weeks).
  • Open workspace environment, which may result in higher levels of noise and visual distractions.
  • Travel between buildings, campuses and off-campus locations.
