Undergraduate Teaching Opportunity
I-LABS is focusing on the next steps in bringing the best of early language research to educational classrooms in the form of language interventions and curricula for children in the 0-5 age range. We are seeking students with experience working with young children in classroom settings. Students will work closely with a research team of linguists, psychologists, neuroscientists, educators, and software engineers from I-LABS who want to bring the best methods of bilingual language teaching to early education classrooms. The primary responsibility will be working alongside other students to lead summer camp sessions for a class of 30-35 preschool-age children. Students will engage children in a curriculum including age-appropriate play-based activities, games, and songs. The summer camp is 7 weeks long, 5 days a week for 3 hours a day (with breaks as needed), and it will take place on the UW campus. Other learning objectives include following research protocols, communicating effectively with the research team, and exposure and engagement in scientific discussion on language development. Students should be native Spanish speakers and should have experience working with preschool-age children in childcare settings. This position will be in person at I-LABS and supervised by Drs. Patricia Kuhl and Naja Ferjan RamÃrez, in addition to graduate student Kaveri Sheth. We are looking for students for the summer (June 24-August 16) for 20 hours a week at $21.50/hour.
