UW ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ ranked #6 in nation
U.S. ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ & World Report has ranked the ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ No. 6 among the nation's best education schools in its annual graduate school ratings, released March 10, rising one place from last year's ranking.
UW ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ ranked No. 2 among education schools at public institutions in the U.S., behind only the University of Wisconsin-Madison (at No. 5 overall) in the 2016 edition of the U.S. ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ ratings. This is the second consecutive year that UW has been ranked second among public institutions by U.S. ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ.
"This recognition by U.S. ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ that we continue to be one of the nation's leading schools of education, while just one measure among many, points to the outstanding work of our faculty, students and graduates," said Interim Dean . "We are proud of their work every day to close opportunity and achievement gaps in our schools so that every child benefits from an excellent education."
UW ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ received the second-most funding per faculty member according to U.S. ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ, one of 10 measures used in the rankings, behind only the University of Southern California.
U.S. ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ sent surveys to 357 schools granting doctoral degrees, with 246 providing data that the publication used to calculate rankings. Measures include quality assessments based on surveys filled out by education school deans and deans of graduate studies, student selectivity, faculty resources and research activity. In all, four UW education specialty programs were ranked among the top 10 nationally. Unlike the overall rankings, specialty rankings for the various programs are based solely on nominations by education deans and deans of graduate studies who were asked to select up to 10 programs of excellence in each specialty. UW's ranked programs are:
• (No. 10)
• (No. 9)
• (No. 7)
• (No. 9)
"Across all of our programs, we emphasize hands-on engagement with our school and community partners," McCutchen said. "Through our pre-service preparation, leadership programs and research, UW students are actively addressing the daily challenges educators face in fostering equitable educational systems."
