Math innovation paper wins distinguished research award

, Geda and Phil Condit Professor in Science & Math Education, has received the Washington Educational Research Association's 2014 Distinguished Paper Award for a paper describing the ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ's innovative work in math education at Renton's Lakeridge Elementary School. The Seattle Times the College's work helping Lakeridge significantly improve student academic achievement by building a professional learning community based on the latest research in mathematics education.

Kazemi co-authored the paper published in the Summer 2013 edition of the Washington State Kappan, with Allison Hintz, assistant professor of education at UW Bothell; Jessica Granger, principal of Lakeridge; Lakeridge math coaches Teresa Lind and Becca Lewis; and Lakeridge teachers Lynn Simpson and Drew Crandall.

The paper was recognized for its significance and quality, and will included in a session at the American Educational Research Association annual meeting taking place in April 2015.
