The ���ߺ��� is excited to announce the first cohort of demonstration sites supported by the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) . Five schools will be available in Spring 2020 and another five available in Fall 2020 to share transformational learning experiences with educators working to build inclusionary practices at their own schools. 

The demonstration sites available in spring 2020 are:

• Evergreen High School – Evergreen School District 
• Hidden River Middle School – Monroe School District
• McMicken Heights Elementary – Highline School District
• Meadow Ridge Elementary – Mead School District
• Toppenish Middle School – Toppenish School District

The demonstration sites available in fall 2020 are:

• Brinnon Elementary School – Brinnon School District
• Chase Middle School – Spokane School District
• Clovis Point Intermediate – Eastmont School District
• Kokanee Elementary School – Northshore School District
• Mark Twain Elementary School – Lake Washington School District

Each demonstration site is at a different stage of its journey toward a fully inclusive learning community and will share inclusionary best practices with educators across the state.

Demonstration sites project lead Cassie Martin explains, “Having an opportunity to see inclusionary practices in action and working with schools that can provide guidance on how to implement these practices will have a huge impact on our schools across Washington State. We know that when educators work together and share best practices it makes our schools stronger.”

Educators from around the state will have the opportunity to observe inclusionary practices in action, meet with school teams, collect artifacts to aid in systems change and engage in discussion about how to implement these inclusionary practices in different school contexts.

“We know the power of providing educators across our state opportunities to see, hear and experience strong examples of inclusionary practices. Our hope is that these demonstration site experiences will seed ideas and begin and further critical discussions that will ultimately lead towards necessary changes in our education systems that improve outcomes for all students,” said Glenna Gallo, assistant superintendent of special education at OSPI.

In mid-April, the Haring Center will offer an online sign-up for schools to visit demonstration sites. If Washington State schools remain closed in the spring, the Haring Center will offer webinars providing virtual site visits to the demonstration sites.

The Haring Center will open up another round of application for more demonstration sites this fall and announce a second cohort of demonstration sites in Winter 2021.
