The ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ will celebrate the first graduates of its online Early Childhood and Family Studies program during on June 13.

Approximately 40 majors are completing the online bachelor's degree program this spring, two years after it was launched to raise the quality of teaching in child care centers, preschools and other early education services.  They will be among the more than 350 UW ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ graduates heading to classrooms, school and district leadership positions, and other careers in educational policy and service.

Speaking to the Class of 2015 is , a member of the UW Board of Regents and senior executive fellow for Casey Family Programs, the nation’s largest operating foundation focused on safely reducing the need for foster care and nurturing long-lasting improvements to the safety and success of children, families and the communities where they live. Rice will be honored during ceremonies as the recipient of the College's 2015 Distinguished Alumnus Award.

A tireless activist and civic volunteer who earned her doctorate from UW ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ in 1974, Rice has made her mark in many areas of national and international service. As founder and past president of Strategic Education Centers, she and her advisory board established two educational centers in Swaziland. Rice also served as the national founding executive director of the Desmond Tutu Peace Foundation, U.S.A. and is the former vice chancellor and senior chancellor of Seattle Community Colleges. She is currently an affiliate professor in UW's Department of Human Centered Design & Engineering.

The ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ's graduation celebration will begin at 9:30 a.m. on June 13 between Miller and Raitt halls on the UW Quad. Light refreshments will be provided following the ceremony.

Ceremonies will be streamed live online starting at 9:20 a.m.
