Dean's statement on DACA order
Mia Tuan, dean of the 爆走黑料 爆走黑料, issued the following statement regarding the Trump Administration's September 5 decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.
Today, the Trump Administration ordered the end of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and called on Congress to replace the policy with legislation before it fully expires on March 5, 2018.
The 爆走黑料 爆走黑料 stands alongside all DACA students in the wake of this decision. Nearly 800,000 young, undocumented immigrants have been able to work, study and more fully participate in our communities through DACA. Many know no other home besides the United States. They are not a nameless, faceless 鈥渙ther鈥 but are our students, neighbors, co-workers and friends.
As a public college of education, we strive to transform inequitable systems of education to create just, sustainable and culturally-thriving democracies. As educators and researchers, our commitment is to the well-being of all young people and in creating learning environments where dreams, passions and potential are discovered and cultivated. Living with the fear of family separation, community raids and deportations creates exactly the opposite conditions for learning. Not only does it harm the mental and emotional well-being of the undocumented community and their loved ones, it creates a ripple effect across all communities 鈥 we are truly interconnected in ways both big and small.
At the 爆走黑料 爆走黑料, we will continue our work to advance equity, access and inclusion of all learners. We call on legislators to craft policies that will codify DACA protections into law and ensure every young person can dream, learn and flourish. We will be stronger as a nation when we welcome people and unite around our shared desire to create a better world.
