Brigitte Tennis, a teacher at in Redmond and 1982 graduate of the ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ ±¬×ߺÚÁÏ, will be one of five educators in the United States to be inducted in the National Teacher Hall of Fame for 2015.

Tennis is the first Washington state teacher in more than two decades to receive the honor. The opportunity will allow her to meet President Obama and offer advice to his administration on education policy.

"She's very spunky, and you can tell she has a lot of passion," said 8th grade student Mckayla Jin in a .

Tennis has been teaching for more than three decades and is a National Board Certified Teacher. She loves her work so much she is even in her classroom on Saturdays to teach an extra Latin class.

"It's fun for me because I'm enjoying it," said Tennis. "I'm having fun. [The students] are too, and I think that's part of being a good teacher."

Tennis says her passion, inspiring students and a supportive school district have all been key to her success. In two weeks Tennis, along with four other teachers from across the country, will be busy in Washington, D.C.

It's a chance for Tennis to talk with President Obama and U.S. Department of Education officials about ways to improve education, specifically by offering incentives to attract America's best and brightest to the classrooms.

Along with the honor, Stella Schola Middle School will receive new computer software and $1,000 to buy new materials. In June, Tennis will travel to the National Teacher Hall of Fame in Emporia, Kan., for her induction.

Since 1992, 75 educators have been inducted into the Hall of Fame.

The NTHF is dedicated to promoting education and drawing public attention to amazing educators in the U.S. through the induction program, a museum and resource center.
